Very rare fossil cockroach Sysciophlebia sp., from the Upper Carboniferous (Pennsylvanian) Atrasado Formation, Bernalillo Co., NM.
305 million years old, virtually unchanged!
Great preservation, wings, legs etc. are clearly visible! Fossil insects are rarely preserved like this, it takes special conditions and a very special site!
From a brackish water environment, has the bivalve Dunbarella on the same matrix.
Matrix measures about 3” x 2.75”, comes in a 4” x 5” display case.
One piece of the slab was glued back on, visible in pictures. No other restoration!
